There will be an information meeting on Tuesday for all girls interested in playing softball this season.  The meeting will be held during I/E time in Coach Smith’s room in the high school.  If you are called out to another class, please see Coach Smith for information regarding upcoming season.

The Guidance Office will close at 11:30 today.  Any student with an application due to Mrs. Dalton please put it in her mailbox before you leave today.

All 10th graders are required to turn in tech center field trip permission slips by Friday, February 20th. Bring your form and drop it in the box outside of the guidance office.  All 10th graders are required to attend this trip. 

All Forensic team members going to the Conference Championship are reminded to meet in front of the high school at 9:15 Saturday morning.

There will be an FCA meeting Friday afternoon from 3 to 3:30 in Mr. Heath’s room.  All are welcome.

To any senior who hasn’t turned in a baby picture for the slide show, please turn one in as soon as possible to Mrs. McGuire in room 110.

Attention junior and senior guys: Men’s Warehouse is offering a $40 coupon on tux rentals. Go to their website and sign up to receive this coupon.

Attention juniors and seniors: There is a sign-up sheet for prom located on Mr. Cheatham’s door. If you are planning on attending, please sign up. Deadline to do so is February 28th.

Attention seniors: Please sign up on Mr. Cheatham’s door if you are interested in going on the senior trip to Kings Dominion May 29th. Details will follow later. We need a head count.

This is a reminder for all high school students; you are not to cut through the middle school on your way to the cafeteria.  Please use the outside entrance. Thank you.

Attention 6th and 7th graders- Are you interested in a medical careers camp this summer? If so, please see Ms. Pugh in Guidance for a flyer. The camp will be held at VA Baptist Hospital from July 27th – July 31st. The deadline for applications is April 20, 2015.

Robert Godsey Memorial Scholarship is in the amount of $500 and will be paid directly to the college for one William Campbell senior who has played baseball for the Brookneal Dixie Youth League and meets the criteria.  Criteria to be considered for this award will include academic performance, participation in school/community activities, previously played Brookneal Dixie Youth baseball, and financial need.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline to return application to guidance is April 20, 2015.

The GROWS summer program is a week long program on the campus of Virginia State University for rising seniors interested in becoming teachers.  During this academic college preparation program, all travel and room and board expenses are covered for selected students as part of the program participation.  The program will be held July 12-19, 2015.  Applications are available in guidance.  Application deadline is March 24th.

Virginia Bankers Association Bank Day Scholarship Program will award six Honorable Mention Scholarships, six Regional Scholarships and one Statewide Scholarship on the basis of essays. Applicants will be required to spend the day at banks across the Commonwealth shadowing a banker in their daily duties. The purpose of this is for the student to learn about banking, financial services, and the vital role banks play in their communities. From their experience the students are required to write an essay on the topic “How Banking Benefits My Community”. Seniors must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply. To be considered for Bank Day you must sign up in Guidance by March 11th.

Ralph & Mitchell Walker Scholarship will be in the amount of $2500.  The scholarship(s) will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who meet the criteria.  Applicants must be residents of southern Campbell or northern Pittsylvania Counties , have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and score above the 50th percentile on either the SAT or the ACT, and planning to attend a two or four year institution.  Applications are available online.  For more information see Mrs. Maxey in guidance.  Deadline to apply is 5/1/2015. 

Southside Electric Cooperative would like to invite interested students who are juniors or seniors in joining them for a day of exploration into the profession of an Electric Lineman.  The event will take place at the Altavista District Office on March 17th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Students who are interested in this career are encourage to attend.  Please see Mrs. Maxey in guidance by Feb. 27th if you would like to sign up for this event. 

Virginia Association of Women Judges will award a $1000 college scholarship to a graduating senior who submits the winning essay. The competition involves the submission of a five hundred word essay on the topic of, “What are the benefits of the participation of women in the legislative and judicial branches of government”. Entry forms are available in Guidance.  Deadline to submit the entry form and essay is March 25th.

The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth will award a minimum of two $2000 scholarships annually. The scholarship funds are available to students who are homeless or who have been homeless during their school attendance and who have demonstrated average or higher than average achievement.  Applications will be accepted from January 1 to June 19, 2015 and can be downloaded from the NAEHCY website.  See WC’s scholarship page for more details.

The CVCC English and Math Placement test for seniors planning to apply to CVCC in the fall, and for any student planning to do a dual enrollment class next year such as machine shop, EMT, HVAC, Welding, MTA, and computer repair has been scheduled for Friday, March 6th.  The test will begin at 8:05 a.m. in the library.  There is no cost for the test.  Students need to sign up in guidance, apply to CVCC, and give your student id # to Mrs. Maxey by Friday, February 27th.
