The 8th and 10th grade field trip to the Campbell County Tech Center on Friday has been rescheduled for March 19th.  Students are still required to return their original permission forms which are now due on March 6th.  Please see Mrs. Dalton or Ms. Pugh if you have any questions.


The CVCC English and Math Placement test for seniors planning to apply to CVCC in the fall, and for any student planning to do a dual enrollment class next year such as machine shop, EMT, HVAC, Welding, MTA, and computer repair has been scheduled for Friday, March 6th.  The test will begin at 8:05 a.m. in the library.  There is no cost for the test.  Students need to sign up in guidance, apply to CVCC, and give your student id # to Mrs. Maxey by Friday, February 27th.

The American Welding Society offers many welding scholarships and some are for one year programs.  For more information and to apply please go to https://scholarship.aws.org/applications/. The last day to apply is March 1st.

Senior shirts are in.  Please see Mrs. Dunn to pick yours up.

Any student attending prom whose date is not from WC should pick up a guest form from the main office.  All applications are due back by April 4th.

Attention 11th graders who had planned to attend the CVCC Open House last week to learn about the Machine Shop, Pre-Nursing, HVAC, Welding and EMT programs.  The Open House has been moved to Monday, March 2nd at the same time and place.  Please see Mrs. Dalton if you have any questions.

Beacon Credit Union will award four scholarships in the amount of $2000 each. Any graduating high school member or a child of a member in good standing six months or more prior to application with a GPA of 2.5 or above may apply. Applications are available in Guidance.  Deadline to apply is April 15th.

Campbell County Sheriff’s Office - The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute is offering scholarships to seniors who will be pursuing an education in the field of law enforcement or criminal justice (not law) for the 2015/2016 school year.   Applicants must attend a Virginia college or university. Letter of recommendation and short essay is required.  Applications are available in Guidance should be returned no later than April 10th.

Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Award:  Nineteen $1,500 scholarships are awarded each year honoring nineteen high school seniors representing all parts of the state with the VHSL-Allstate Achievement Award, the highest honor given by the VHSL to students who have excelled in the classroom and in athletic and academic activities.  Application deadline:  must be postmarked by March 25. 

Savedge Scholarship Award:  Each year the VHSL awards $500 to one college-bound senior who has participated and excelled in school publications (magazine, newsmagazine, newspaper and yearbook), and for at least two years has demonstrated outstanding personal qualities such as leadership, writing, proficiency, design aptitude, creativity, teamwork and character.  Application deadline:  must be postmarked by March 1.

Rich Murray Sports Journalism Scholarship is presented annually to an outstanding graduating Virginia high school senior who excels in the area of sports journalism and must be pursuing a college degree in journalism, communication or a related field with the intentions of pursuing a career in sports.  The scholarship is in the amount of $1000. Applications are available in guidance.  Deadline to apply is March 25th.

Tennis Tryouts are today from 3:15 – 5:30.  Meet in Coach Sterne’s room after school.

To any senior who hasn’t turned in a baby picture for the slide show, please turn one in as soon as possible to Mrs. McGuire in room 110.

Attention junior and senior guys: Men’s Warehouse is offering a $40 coupon on tux rentals. Go to their website and sign up to receive this coupon.

Attention juniors and seniors: There is a sign-up sheet for prom located on Mr. Cheatham’s door. If you are planning on attending, please sign up. Deadline to do so is February 28th.

Attention seniors: Please sign up on Mr. Cheatham’s door if you are interested in going on the senior trip to Kings Dominion May 29th. Details will follow later. We need a head count.

Attention 6th and 7th graders- Are you interested in a medical careers camp this summer? If so, please see Ms. Pugh in Guidance for a flyer. The camp will be held at VA Baptist Hospital from July 27th – July 31st. The deadline for applications is April 20, 2015.

Robert Godsey Memorial Scholarship is in the amount of $500 and will be paid directly to the college for one William Campbell senior who has played baseball for the Brookneal Dixie Youth League and meets the criteria.  Criteria to be considered for this award will include academic performance, participation in school/community activities, previously played Brookneal Dixie Youth baseball, and financial need.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  Deadline to return application to guidance is April 20, 2015.

Virginia Bankers Association Bank Day Scholarship Program will award six Honorable Mention Scholarships, six Regional Scholarships and one Statewide Scholarship on the basis of essays. Applicants will be required to spend the day at banks across the Commonwealth shadowing a banker in their daily duties. The purpose of this is for the student to learn about banking, financial services, and the vital role banks play in their communities. From their experience the students are required to write an essay on the topic “How Banking Benefits My Community”. Seniors must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply. To be considered for Bank Day you must sign up in Guidance by March 11th.

Ralph & Mitchell Walker Scholarship will be in the amount of $2500.  The scholarship(s) will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who meet the criteria.  Applicants must be residents of southern Campbell or northern Pittsylvania Counties , have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and score above the 50th percentile on either the SAT or the ACT, and planning to attend a two or four year institution.  Applications are available online.  For more information see Mrs. Maxey in guidance.  Deadline to apply is 5/1/2015.

Southside Electric Cooperative would like to invite interested students who are juniors or seniors in joining them for a day of exploration into the profession of an Electric Lineman.  The event will take place at the Altavista District Office on March 17th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Students who are interested in this career are encourage to attend.  Please see Mrs. Maxey in guidance by Feb. 27th if you would like to sign up for this event.
