The William C. Fowlkes Scholarship Fund may have funds to provide scholarships to seniors attending the University of Virginia from the city of Lynchburg or Campbell County, Virginia. Applications are available in the counselor’s office. Deadline to apply is March 10th.
Awareness Garden Foundation will award at least one scholarship in the amount of $2500 in 2015. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students whose lives have been impacted by cancer or who wish to pursue work in a cancer related field. Applications are available online at www.awarenessgarden.com. Deadline to apply online is March 6th.
The Fray Family Charitable Trust Scholarship will award annually four $1000 scholarships (one from each high school) to applicants who best meet the stated criteria. Criteria is based on academic achievement (minimum 2.0 GPA), financial need, community involvement, and recommendations. Any eligible senior may apply. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline to return to Guidance is March 20th.
Virginia Association For Family & Community Education, Inc. (VAFCE) will offer two scholarships in the amount of $1000. Ella G. Agnew Scholarship is to be used by high school seniors seeking training for a nursing career or in a field related to the medical profession. The Maude E. Wallace Scholarship is a general scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior planning to further his/her education in any field. Applications are available in Guidance and should be returned to Guidance no later than April 27th.
The 2014 Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps (VSPYCC) is offering a three week outdoor environmental summer program for youth ages 14-17. Crew members will work in the park on weekdays, participate in environmental education programs weeknights, and endure adventure training on weekends. Upon completion crew members will receive a $500 stipend. To apply, please visit http://bit.ly/vspycc. Applicants must have at least two references. Deadline to apply online is May 1, 2015.
The Society of Women Engineers at the University of Virginia invites high school seniors to apply for a place in our High School Visitation Program, taking place Saturday, February 28, 2015. The program gives young women a comprehensive look at engineering fields and at UVA’s engineering curriculum through informative speakers and hands-on design activities. The program is designed to benefit participants with all levels of engineering experience. We particularly target those students who are not yet familiar with the field but may be interested in applying to engineering schools or pursuing an engineering career. Attention 10th grade Advanced Math students: Applications for the Early College Scholar Program and the Central Virginia Governor’s School are now available from Mrs. Dalton in Guidance. Students who are in Pre-AP Algebra II/Trig or Pre-AP Calculus are eligible to apply for these programs. Please pick applications from Mrs. Dalton by Wednesday, January 21st.
Attention 10th graders who are interested in attending the STEM Engineering Program at CVCC next year: Applications are now available from Mrs. Dalton. Students who attend this program spend ½ the day at CVCC taking math, science and Engineering courses and the other half of the day at William Campbell. This is a great program for students who would like to receive college credit during high school and are interested in getting hired by companies such as BWXT and Areva after high school. Please see Mrs. Dalton by Wednesday, January 21st to find out eligibility requirements and to pick up an application.
The CVCC English and Math Placement test for sophomores who plan to apply to the Early College or STEM programs, seniors planning to attend CVCC in the fall, and any student planning to take a dual enrollment class next year such as Machine Shop, has been scheduled for Friday, February 6th. The test will begin at 8:05 in the library. There is no cost for the test and students need to apply to CVCC prior to testing. The deadline to sign up in Guidance is Friday, January 30th.
