Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Basketball team on their win over Appomattox. The final score was 48 – 41. The lead scorers were Jasmine Rosser with 11 points and Erika Peerman with 12 points. Jordan Hamlett led the team in 11 rebounds while Keri Halmett led the team with 3 steals. Total team effort. Great Job!
The girls’ basketball team is hosting a pink out game tonight against Central Lunenburg. Please support them by wearing pink during the game tonight.
All girls staying for softball workout today are to be dressed and on the field by 3:05. Dress warm. Do not come outside in a short-sleeve shirt. If you did not bring long sleeves or a jacket, do not stay for workout!
Calvary Baptist Church has three $500 scholarships to award. Seniors who are graduating from Altavista, Gretna, Faith Christian, Rustburg or William Campbell may apply. Applicant must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Three letters of recommendation and an essay are required. Applications are available in Guidance and should be returned by March 30.
There will be a leadership club meeting on Thursday in the library. We will be discussing mentoring.

Softball workouts will begin on Tuesday, January 27th and run each Tuesday and Thursday until February 19, weather permitting. Workouts will run from 3 – 4:15. You must have a current physical on file and have a ride each day by 4:30. Please dress appropriately for the weather. We will be outside. Workouts are open to any girl, grades 8 – 12, interested in playing softball and not currently involved in another sport season. If you have any question, please see Coach Smith or Coach Rutledge.
Granville P. Meade Scholarship is based on financial need and merit. Applicants will need to demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular activities, good character as determined by letters of recommendation, and financial need. Applications are available in Guidance and should be returned to Guidance no later than February 27th.
Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund will offer a $2500 scholarship to a senior based on need, academics, community service and writing skill. An essay of 500 – 1000 words and two letters of recommendation are required. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and should be returned to Guidance no later than March 25.
Brookneal Woman’s Club in partnership with The Brookneal Presbyterian Church will offer a $1000 scholarship to a William Campbell senior. Criteria is based on academic performance, participation in school/community activities, and financial need. Transcript, letter of recommendation and an essay is required. Applications are available in the School Counselor’s office and should be returned by May 1st.
Miller-Motte Technical College will be offering Shadow Day on Wednesday, February 18. High school seniors interested in any program that we offer will have the opportunity to mingle with students, get to know program directors, participate in labs, and special projects. University of Virginia is offering a new and exciting opportunity for Virginia’s high school students. Rising juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in UVA’s Leadership on the Lawn summer leadership program, developed to strengthen the leadership skills of students who have displayed leadership interest and potential in your school and community. The program will run from July 12-July 17, 2015. The cost is $1000.00. Applications and information about the program can be found at www.leadershiponthelawn.com. The application deadline is May 1st.

Attention 6th and 7th graders- Are you interested in a medical careers camp this summer? If so, please see Ms. Pugh in Guidance for a flyer. The camp will be held at VA Baptist Hospital from July 27th – July 31st. The deadline for applications is April 20, 2015.
The CVCC English and Math Placement test for sophomores who plan to apply to the Early College or STEM programs, seniors planning to attend CVCC in the fall, and any student planning to take a dual enrollment class next year such as Machine Shop, has been scheduled for Friday, February 6th. The test will begin at 8:05 in the library. There is no cost for the test and students need to apply to CVCC prior to testing. The deadline to sign up in Guidance is Friday, January 30th.
