Congratulations to the following track athletes for wins over Altavista, Appomattox, & Nelson yesterday.  Aariana Lane; first in Triple Jump.    Makayla Graves; first in 100 High Hurdles.  Sabrina Horn; first 300 Hurdles.  Makayla Graves, Sabrina Horn, Paris Elam, and Davana Mosley placed first in the 4x100 relay. 

 

Congratulations to Morgan Hawkins, Austin Silby, Adam Scott, and Nick Clarke.  They placed 1st in the Ag Mechanics Jr Teams at area level. Congratulations to Isaac Williams who placed 2nd in FFA Prepared Public Speaking. 

 

Brogan Thomas Franklin Live to Learn Scholarship in the amount of $1000 is designed for WCHS seniors who are planning to major in some form of English, creative writing, journalism, or teacher education.  A short essay is required.  Applications are in guidance. Deadline to apply is April 17th.

 

Dick Sargeson Tennis Scholarship sponsored by the Lynchburg Tennis Patrons Association will award 2 scholarship awards in the amount of $500 each.  Applicants must be a US citizen and have a GPA of at least 2.5.  A letter of recommendation from high school teacher or coach and an essay on how tennis has impacted your life is required.  Applications are available in the counseling office.  Deadline to return application is April 27th.

 

Seniors:  The sign-up sheet for the senior banquet is posted on Mr. Marano’s door. Please sign up if you are attending.

 

There will be a senior council meeting in the art room today during I/E time.  Please report if you are available.

 

Attention William Campbell:   Friday is Career Day.  Dress to impress.  Middle School will be 8:00-10:30 and High School will be an all-day event in the library.  High schoolers will have the opportunity to visit during certain electives.  Bring a resume if you have one.  Multiple businesses are looking to hire.  See Ms. Pugh or Dr. Jordan is you have questions.

 

Congratulations to Haley Mitchell today on completion of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy. If you see Haley today please wish her luck with her presentation of her business Music Noteboard.  Good luck Haley.

 

Brookneal Lions Club is offering a scholarship to one senior in the amount of $300 based on achievement, recommendation letter and a short essay.  Applications are in Guidance and need to be returned to Guidance by April 30th.

 

Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association (VNLA) will award scholarships of $1,500 to two or more students enrolled in a college of university for the next academic year and two or more scholarships of $750 to students enrolled in 2-year community college program who will be majoring in horticulture or related agricultural curriculum.  Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or equivalent and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Applications and info are available on the VNLA website under the "About" tab, "Scholarships" Or directly at http://www.vnla.org/portals/29/docs/Forms/ScholarshipWebForm2015.pdf.  Deadline to apply is April 15th.

 

Virginia Soybean Association (VSA) will award a scholarship to an undergraduate who is planning to attend a two or four year college or university.  All majors may apply but students who intend to pursue a career in an agricultural related field upon graduation are preferred.  Applications are in guidance.  Deadline to apply is April 13th.

 

Marine Corps League Lynchburg Area Detachment will offer two scholarships in the amount of $1000 to be given to graduating seniors from a public school in the city of Lynchburg or counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell, and Bedford. Applicant must be accepted to a college or technical school. Selection is based on essay, financial need, and school activities. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline to apply is May 13th.

 

The Baccalaureate signup sheet can be found on Mr. Cheatham’s door.  Please sign up if you are participating in the candle lighting service.  Partners must be a student of William Campbell Combined School (this includes the middle school).

 

The Herff Jones class ring representative will be here on Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24 during lunches in the cafeteria taking official William Campbell High School class ring orders.  You are also invited to attend the parent/student order night that will be held on Monday evening, March 23 from 3:00-6:00 in the main lobby.  A small deposit is required to place your ring order.

 

 

Prom tickets went on sale March 11.  The cost of each ticket is $25.  Please see Mr. Cheatham or Marano to purchase.  Also if there is any junior or senior who failed to sign up for prom and wishes to attend see Mrs. Dunn ASAP.

 

Picture flyers for prom packages are in the main office on the counter.

 

 

Students attending prom; there is a song box located in the cafeteria.  Please fill out the slips with your song selections and drop in the box. 

 

Any student attending prom whose date is not from WC should pick up a guest form from the main office.  All applications are due back by April 4th.

 

You’re in luck high and middle school.  The yearbook price of $55 has been extended through April 3-this is no April Fool’s joke.  Please reserve your copy today and see Mrs. McGuire in room 110 for the first combined school yearbook.
