Congratulations to the girl’s tennis team on their 7-2 win over Appomattox on Friday.  The girls play their last regular season match today at Altavista.  Please wish them luck.

For the past 14 years, the Alliance Française of Lynchburg has sponsored an essay contest for French students of Lynchburg City and surrounding area schools.  The Alliance Française is an organization that promotes French language and culture with chapters all over the world.  This year, French students wrote essays during one class period with only the help of one dictionary on given topics.  Each teacher selected the best 25 percent of the essays and two area college professors of French, Glenda Cash from Lynchburg College and Dr. Marie-Thèrese Killian of Sweet Briar, read the essays and determined the top three essays per level.  At the reception, Kendra Turner, vice-president of the Alliance Française de Lynchburg commended the students on their achievements in their study of French.   106 essays were sent in as the top 25% from each teacher and William Campbell's Haley Mitchell received third place for French Level I.  Congratulations Haley!

Last minute scholarship opportunity:  Joan Guthrie Davis Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded to a William Campbell senior who plans to pursue a degree in a music or medical-related field.  Applications are in guidance and need to be returned no later than May 21st. See Mrs. Maxey for application today if interested.

Attention girls interested in volleyball:  The Virginia Tech Camp is right around the corner.  All girls need to be signed up no later than May 30th.  See Mrs. Martin for details.  Registration can be done online.  Camp is held here at WC on July 22-24.
