ACE practice has been cancelled for today, Thursday, October 12th.

On October 9th and 10th Gage Shotwell represented WCCS in the 1A/2A state golf tournament held at Heritage Oaks golf course in Harrisonburg, VA. He shot a total score of 183 with a score of 91 on Monday and 92 on Tuesday. Players played from the tips of the course with a total of over 6,300 yards. Gage finished in 30th place in the state. Congratulations, Gage!

Since we are out of school tomorrow, the last day to order yearbooks for the early bird special is Tuesday, October 17th. Yearbooks are $35 and $40 with your name on it. After Tuesday, prices go up.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Lynchburg College will be at WC for an On-Site Admission Visit on Tuesday, October 24th at 1:00 pm. Seniors who wish to be considered for admission MUST have the following information ready on that day: completed application, SAT/ACT scores, and transcripts. Transcript request forms need to be turned in to the Guidance Office prior to the meeting. Sign up in Guidance by October 20th if you plan to attend.

Attention 7th graders: Are you interested in exploring health and medical careers at Centra? If so, please see Ms. Pugh in middle school guidance for more information and for an application to apply. This is a wonderful opportunity and space is limited to 15 participants.

A BETA meeting will be held after school on Tuesday, October 17th in the library. All BETA members must attend. If you cannot make the meeting, please see Ms. Robson before Tuesday.

Attention Seniors: If you would like to learn more about the programs offered at CVCC, please sign up for our field trip to CVCC on November 3rd from 8:30-11:30 am. Students who would like to attend should sign up at the table located in the main lobby. Permission forms will also be on the table. All permission forms must be returned by October 31st.

Attention Seniors: New scholarships have been added to the school's website under the school counseling scholarship section:
  • Members of the Central Virginia Federal Credit Union may apply for the Joseph P. Crouch Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is worth $1000. Applications must be turned in to the counseling office by November 15th.
  • The Harry F. Byrd, Jr. $10,000 Leadership Award is now open to all seniors. The award is based on leadership, character, and duty. Only one student from WC may be nominated. If you wish to be considered, please see Mrs. Dalton by October 27th.

Look at our website for more information on these scholarships. Please request copies of the applications from the counseling office.

Lifetouch will be here Monday, October 23 for picture retakes.  Please pick up picture re-take envelopes in the office.

Attention 10 & 11 Graders:  The PSAT’s will be given on Wednesday, Oct. 25.  All 10 graders are required to take the test.  The cost is free for 10 graders.  Any 11 grader who wishes to take this test may sign up with Mrs. Faulconer in the Guidance Office.  The cost for the test is $16 but fee waivers are available if you meet certain guidelines such as receiving free or reduced lunch.  11 graders who wish to sign up must do so by Oct. 12.  A limited number of test are available to 11 graders so first come, first served.  11 graders who take the PSATs may possibly qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Please touch base with Mrs. Dalton if you have any questions.

Attention all rising 10, 11, and 12 graders.  Campbell County Schools and Oakes Test Prep will be providing free SAT Prep for students on Oct. 21, 8:30-10:30, Oct. 28, 1:00-3:00, and Nov. 11, 8:30-10:30.  If you have any questions about the workshops, please call (434) 426-1204 or email Oakestestprep@aol.com.
