Southside Electric Cooperative would like to invite interested students who are juniors or seniors in joining them for a day of exploration into the profession of an Electric Lineman.  The event will take place at the Altavista District Office on November 5th from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Students who are interested in this career are encouraged to attend.  Please see Mrs. Maxey in guidance by October 30th if you would like to sign up for this event.

 

Congratulations to the WC Marching Generals as they competed this past weekend in Elon, NC.  The band placed 3rd overall with a rating of excellent. Good job!

 

Homecoming court practice is Tuesday during I/E.  Meet Mrs. Hancock in front of the high school office. Representatives and escorts need to make arrangements to attend.

 

Attention students who took the ASVAB test. A representative from ASVAB will be here on Friday, October 23, at 8:10 for ASVAB interpretation. She will go over the test scores and answer any questions you may have. Please plan to be present.

 

The Harry F. Byrd, Jr. $10,000 Leadership Award recognizes outstanding high school seniors. Excellence, Leadership, Character, and Duty are the focus of this award. Each high school is allowed to choose one student to recommend for this award. An application and essays are required. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Dalton by October 31, 2015.

 

High school dance tickets for homecoming will be sold at the door for $5.00. 

 

Seniors:  Lynchburg College will be at WC for an On Site Admission Visit on Oct.27– 1:00 p.m. You must have the following information ready on that day: Completed application, SAT scores, and transcripts.  Transcript request forms need to be turned in to the Guidance Department prior to the meeting. Sign up in guidance by Oct. 22 if you plan to attend.

 

All students can pick up locker decoration paper from the library this week.

 

A representative from Herff Jones will be here on Tuesday, October 20th during lunches in the cafeteria, taking your senior graduation products and cap and gown orders.  Please stop by and order your cap and gown on this date.  A small deposit is required with your order.

 

Junior / Senior Fundraiser:  Please turn in your fish fry orders to Mrs. Hancock as soon as possible. All orders are due by October 20th.

 

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Schools, organizations and communities are raising awareness of bullying prevention and teaching students how to respond effectively to bullying situations.  Each day on the morning announcements a bullying prevention tip will be read to the student body.
