Classes of 2022 (and beyond) High School Graduation Requirements for Virginia Students

Standard Diploma Requirements:

4 Units of  English
3 Units of Math
3 Units of Science
3 Units of History
2 Units of PE
2 Units of Fine Arts or Career Technical
4 Units of Electives
1 Unit of Economics

Additional Graduation Credit: All  students must  pass ONE of the following:

  Pass a certification assessment which are offered in several courses including Economics classes, Computer Applications classes, CIS classes, Basic Tech Drawing courses, Agriscience classes and Technical Center Courses. All students are administered the W!SE test at the end of their Economics course.

OR

Pass a Pre-AP or AP Class





Advanced Diploma Requirements:

4 Units of  English
4 Units of Math
4 Units of Science
4 Units of History
2 Units of PE
3 Units of Foreign Language (or 4 Units of           two languages)
1 Units of Fine Arts or Career Technical
3 Units of Electives
1 Unit   of Economics

Both diplomas types require the following SOLs:

English- 2 (Reading / Writing)
Math- 1
Science- 1
History- 1

ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE TWO SEQUENTIAL ELECTIVES (ex. Basic Technical Drawing -> Engineering Drawing)
