Congratulations to the cross-country team for their performance at Saturday's VHSL State Championship. William Campbell brought a full girls team to the state meet for the first time since 1998. Mia Isaman, Maggie Spickard, Lauralee Spickard and Peighton Francis all ran all-time PR's on a challenging Virginia Tech course that race directors said did not lend itself to fast times. The girls finished 9th in the state, ahead of Patrick Henry (Glade Hill) and Middlesex. Lauralee Spickard finished fifth in a field of 102 runners and earned All-State honors. This marks the first time an athlete from William Campbell has done so in cross-country in twenty years. Her time of 21:00 over 5k puts her in the top 30% of all runners in Virginia, Class 1 through 6. On the boys side, Gabe Updike, who individually qualified for the state meet for the second consecutive year, also ran a PR of 19:29, the fastest time a WC runner has recorded over 5k since 2015. Coach Robson would like to recognize the entire team for the courage, effort, and resiliency they showed all season and would like to thank all the students and faculty members who came out to support the team. Thank you and Go Generals!

Help us celebrate Kindness Week (November 11-15th) at William Campbell by taking the time to tell those around you how much you appreciate all they do, hold the door open for someone, speak to a student you don't normally connect with, sit with someone new at breakfast, or help a friend by listening to them. It doesn't matter how small of an act it is because we all need a little kindness in our lives. At lunch, stop by and write a small note on a leaf which we will use to decorate our Kindness Tree. We will have a quote each day this week to remind us that being kind is always the route we should take: Today's quote comes from J.R.R. Tolkien -- "I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love."
General Salutes
Ms. Gaddy - For putting up all the signs around the building to encourage our students and staff. We appreciate you, Ms. Gaddy!
Laniya Nelson - Laniya always puts 100% effort into her assignments, essays, and projects in AP Language and Composition class. She only missed one point out of 75 points on her Great Gatsby quizzes. She is a superb student who all should emulate.
Liliana Rosas - For going above and beyond to achieve what needs to be done in the classroom and always having a good attitude.
Jeriah Smith - Jeriah's determination and grit is inspiring to watch. Every day, she shows up and completes the day's tasks at hand. She is unaware of the inspiration that she truly is.

Today is a special day, it is Veterans Day. This Veterans Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation with distinction and valor. Their sacrifices and dedication ensure the freedoms we enjoy every day. We are especially proud to recognize one of our own faculty members, Ms. Abigail Robson, who exemplifies the spirit of service that we celebrate on this day. From 2014 to 2020, while teaching and coaching at William Campbell, Ms. Robson served as an intelligence analyst in the 29th Infantry Division of the Virginia Army National Guard. Her service included positions with D Company of the 229th Engineer Battalion in Manassas and later with Headquarters of the 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Staunton. Ms. Robson's dual commitment to both our country and our students demonstrates the exceptional character we strive to instill in our William Campbell community. Her work as an intelligence analyst while maintaining her dedication to education shows our students that service can take many forms. On this Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to Ms. Robson and all veterans who have served our nation. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to duty inspire us all and remind us of the true meaning of patriotism and service. Please join us in thanking Ms. Robson and all veterans in our community for their service to our nation.

When Kaden discovered $50 on the ground, he immediately took action to do what was right, turning the money into a teacher and helping ensure it was returned to its rightful owner. Thank you, Kaden, for showing that integrity matters.
Printice Stone and Jaylen Williams - Following a recent cross-country meet, these young men engaged in a conversation with a county employee that left such a positive impression that the employee contacted our school specifically to commend their character and conduct. Their respectful demeanor and engaging conversation exemplified the values we strive to instill in all of our students. These students have shown that they are not just athletes, but true ambassadors of William Campbell. Their actions remind us that our students' conduct outside of school hours and off school grounds continues to reflect upon our institution, and in this case, they have made us exceptionally proud.

Today marks the beginning of our second nine weeks of the school year. As we start this new quarter, I'd like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of two key factors in your academic success: attendance and grades. Remember that being present and on time for each class is crucial for your academic success. Every day builds upon the previous one, and missing class can make it challenging to keep up with your coursework. If you've had attendance challenges during the first quarter, now is the time to make a fresh start. Regarding grades, the second nine weeks gives everyone an opportunity to either maintain their strong academic performance or make improvements where needed. Take time to: Review your first quarter grades; Set specific goals for this quarter; Communicate with your teachers if you need extra help; Take advantage of tutoring and study hall opportunities. Your success is our priority, and we're here to support you. Let's make this quarter even better than the last!

Today is a special day as we celebrate our unsung heroes -- our amazing custodial team! These dedicated individuals arrive early, stay late, and work tirelessly throughout the day to ensure our school remains clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone. Think about it: Who makes sure our classrooms are spotless every morning? Who keeps our hallways gleaming and our cafeteria ready for lunch? Who responds quickly when there's a spill or when something needs fixing? Our custodians do all this and more, often behind the scenes, with a smile on their faces. Today we'd like to recognize: Mr. Owen, Mrs. Owen, Ms. Colbert, Ms. Ward, Mr. Terry and Mr. Sydnor. Remember, a clean school is a team effort. While our custodians work hard to maintain our building, it's up to all of us to do our part. Let's show them we care by being extra mindful today and everyday.
