School Lunch Hero Day is held annually on the first Friday in May in honor of each person responsible for providing lunches (and food) to millions of children across America. This year, it took place on May 5th. If you looked forward to tasty food and a full belly in school, you know exactly whom to thank for this. These include school nutrition professionals and even those who serve the food in cafeterias. Each person responsible for making sure good food is handed out to students is a hero, and this day was specially designed to show them some love.

Teachers play a critical role in educating and shaping our children into the future leaders of our country. These kind, patient, hard-working, dedicated, and understanding professionals help mold our children and guide them in positive directions. We entrust our children with teachers during the school year and they play a pivotal role in their lives daily. No matter where we are in life, a teacher influenced us. They continue to impact our lives every day, too! When we meet new employees with a wealth of skills and abilities, know a teacher helped shape them. Every new business owner, doctor, engineer, or nurse can name a teacher who inspired them. Every one of us has at least one teacher in mind who encouraged and motivated us during our education. Take the time today to say "Thank You" to the exceptional teachers you know. Take a moment and reflect on the teachers in your life.

They work while we sleep. Sometimes we walk around them in the halls not always “seeing” them or their work as important. That’s why we love this day, National Custodian Day, which rolls around every October 2nd. It recognizes the hard work that it takes to keep our public facilities in tip-top shape as well as the people who diligently work to make sure we have schools and workplaces that are spotless and sanitary. Custodians are our first line of defense of the war on germs and often, it’s a thankless task. So, on National Custodian Day, show your appreciation to the custodians who clean our school – Mr. Owen, Mrs. Owen, Ms. Colbert, Mr. Scott, Mr. Terry and Mrs. Ward! Thank you for everything you do for us at WC!

Are you a whiz at English, mathematics, science, or social studies? Would you like to be part of an elite team answering questions on these subjects in competition? If you answered, yes, then we invite you to join William Campbell’s Scholastic Bowl team. There will be an informational meeting after school on Tuesday, September 20th, in Room 110. Please contact Mr. Feeken if you have any questions or would like more information.

Last year William Campbell beat Altavista 28-6. Join us again this Friday as history repeats itself for our throwback game as the Generals take on the Colonels here at home. We also encourage everyone to dress in clothing from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Go Generals!

September is National Attendance Awareness Month and to celebrate we will be giving away a free sports pass to one lucky student that has perfect attendance for the remainder of the 9 weeks. All students with perfect attendance from September 14th until October 2nd will be entered into a drawing for a sports pass, which will get them into any home game for the remainder of the school year. We look forward to seeing all our students at school!
